While it started to stray more into the "might makes right" mindset of most shonen anime toward the end, Naruto began as a show where intelligence and tactics played huge roles in determining the victor of most battles.

Naruto himself was considered to be dumb when it came to his studies in school, but he quickly showed that in battle, he was a quick thinker who could come up with creative solutions on the fly. In fact, some of his best strategies in the show let him come out ahead against some powerful opponents.

10

When He Transformed Into A Shuriken Against Zabuza

Team 7's battle against Zabuza was their first realization that the enemies they would face away from home were deadly and challenging. Zabuza showed just how dangerous he was during their fight when he trapped Kakashi in a water prison, leaving the rest of Team 7 to deal with Zabuza. Naruto came up with a strategy and transformed himself to look like a shuriken that was then thrown by Sasuke. After being dodged, he turned back behind Zabuza and threw a kunai to break Zabuza's prison and bring Kakashi back into the fight.

When He Used Sexy Jutsu Against Kaguya

Kaguya was an extremely powerful enemy that all of Team 7, Kakashi, and Obito had to fight together to stand a chance. Kaguya was able to resist some of their most powerful ninjutsu, but Naruto decided to go for the shock factor to push their advantage. He used reverse harem jutsu to distract and confuse Kaguya so that he could land a solid hit. As he stated before "sexy type jutsu work better on stronger opponents," and that was clearly true seeing how affected Kaguya was by such a simple jutsu.

When He Hid Underground To Defeat Neji

During the Chunin Exam Arc, Neji was a force to be reckoned with and seemed directly opposed to Naruto's ideologies. When they finally clashed, Naruto had to use some of Kurama's chakra to be able to even stand a chance.

After a huge clash, Neji was barely left standing and Naruto was lying in a crater knocked out. Neji only had a moment to enjoy his victory before Naruto burst out of the ground and uppercut him, revealing that the unconscious Naruto was just a clone used for distraction.

7

When He Used His Clones For Easy Access To Sage Chakra

Storing and using nature chakra requires a person to sit still and meditate to draw it in. This makes it difficult to use in battle, but Naruto used his proficiency with shadow clones as a work around. While he went off to battle Pain, he left behind a couple of clones who were constantly meditating and storing sage chakra. When Naruto's sage mode ran out of time, he would recall one of the clones and all of the nature chakra would flow into his original body. This was a clever workaround and allowed him to go toe-to-toe with Pain.

6

When He Spread Kurama's Chakra To The Shinobi Alliance

Naruto has the largest chakra reserves out of any ninja in the series, and that's before factoring in Kurama's immense amount of chakra. During the Fourth Great Ninja War when Naruto was working with the Shinobi Alliance, he decided to spread his chakra to every member of the alliance to increase their capabilities. He saw that keeping all of that chakra to himself would be a waste and instead decided to power up everyone for a better chance at victory.

5

When He Sped Up His Training With His Shadow Clones

It was shown in the series that all of Naruto's shadow clones share their knowledge and experience with the original when they are destroyed or dispersed. Naruto needed to learn a technique in a few weeks that would normally take years to master. He heavily utilized his shadow clones, speeding up his training immensely and allowing him to create the Rasenshuriken in the span of weeks, something that he wouldn't have been able to do without the experience gained from his clones.

4

When He Fully Utilized His Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu

Naruto has been shown capable of summoning an enormous amount of shadow clones to fight by his side, and while he occasionally just throws numbers at his enemies, more often than not he uses the clones to set up moves or make his opponent lose track of his real body.

In the past, he's also utilized his clones for mobility by using them in midair as a foothold or a boost. He's used them for distractions while his real body set up a big attack, and has even chained together dozens of clones to hurl his opponents into nearby objects.

3

When He Used Transformation Jutsu To Trick Kiba

During the Chunin Exams, Naruto had to fight Kiba and his dog Akamaru. Akamaru transformed into Kiba's likeness so that their moves would be more potent, and it seemed clear Naruto wasn't able to keep up. This is where Naruto also turned into Kiba so that the real Kiba and Akamaru would get confused on who was the real one. Kiba attacked Naruto successfully using his sense of smell, but Naruto then turned into Akamaru to fool Kiba into thinking he'd made a mistake. His mind games allowed him to win the match.

2

When He Figured Out The Third Raikage's Weakness

The Fourth Great Ninja War involved many reincarnated ninja fighting against the current ninja. One of these reincarnated shinobi was the Third Raikage, who had a lightning cloak that reportedly made him impervious to damage and an attack that could pierce anything. Naruto was able to piece together the clues from when the Eight-tails fought him and used his sage jutsu and a Rasengan to redirect the Raikage's attack into his own chest.

1

When He Shows He's A Master Of Talk No Jutsu

This is Naruto's strongest strategy he's ever shown. While talk no jutsu is just a meme, Naruto did have a keen ability to figure out what forces or emotions were driving his enemies and talk them into changing their ways. He had a knack for turning powerful enemies into allies, which resulted in him gaining the friendship of Gaara, Nagato, Obito, and eventually, he even got through to Sasuke. This strategy brought down some of the most powerful ninja in the Naruto universe, and he didn't have to fully defeat them in order to do it.
